The rankings, released this week, showed the Orange County college in the town of Highlands also ranked as No. 8 in Best National Liberal Arts College, the magazine said.

The rankings were based on statistics, the top-ranked schools provided ample classroom resources for students and faculty; conferred bachelor's degrees at high rates; and produced graduates who entered the workforce with manageable debt and worthwhile starting salaries.

West Point performed well in all categories.

In the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs category, at schools where a doctorate is not offered, West Point ranks No. 4.

Additionally, in the Best in the Specialties category, West Point moved up in each category: No. 3 for its civil engineering program, No. 6 in mechanical engineering, and No. 7 in electrical engineering.

The biggest gain was in the Undergraduate Economics Programs category, where the academy moved up 15 spots.

“I’m proud of our continued strong standing this year,” said Dean of the Academic Board, Brig. Gen. Shane Reeves. “Our rankings reflect our robust education across a breadth of disciplines, preparing cadets to apply their knowledge to complex problems so that as future officers, they can innovate and win on the modern battlefield.”
